An update from San Cristobal De Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico....
Hola!
We arrived in San Cristobal yesterday and have really landed on our feet!
We are loving the vibe of this place. San Cristobel is in the mountains, at 2,162m and has a real bohemian, artsy feel about it. Lots of markets, restaurants, pub etc. Plus, the climate is cool...so that is a welcome change. San Cristobel is surrounded by villages where ancestors of the indigenous Maya people live so, we are hoping to get a chance to see some of these places too.
After bumbling along with dodgy guidebook Spanish for the past 2 weeks, we have decided to make use of the Spanish school here. This morning we started at intensive week of spanish lessons! We are part of a homestay, which means that we are living with a Mexican family for the week. They have 2 small children and none of the family speak English. So, we are on a steep learning curve!
The school is just down the road from where we are living, we have great Spanish teachers and the school we are attending offers all sorts of things, including Salsa (which is going to be useful given we will be in Cuba next week).
It´s nice to be "settling down" somewhere for a week, unpacking the bags and getting to know the locals. This morning we bumped into some friends we met earlier in the trip, so hope to see more of them too!
Our first meal with our family today was sensational, and we are looking forward to trying many more local dishes during the week.
Hasta Luego...
T & M
