Heading north out of Copenhagen and towards our next destination

The 'Tivoli' - one of the oldest amusement parks

This narrow street has some of the oldest houses in Copenhagen

Someone clever designed this floating swimming complex on the river, in the heart of Copenhagen

Entering the hippie town of Christiania….

Christiania

Despite the name, Christiania has no connection with religion, instead it is a conroversial hippie town or commune, situated within the city of Copenhagen.

Christiania started as a social experiment in the early 70’s and started in abondoned army baracks. There are now 700 people living here of which 20% apparantly “lie on the sofa and say peace and love whilst smoking marijuana”.

It’s a self sufficient community, with a motto of no hard drugs, no weapons, no violence. It’s also a car free zone, so everyone tends to get around on bikes (of all description).

We were given a tour by someone who has lived there for 28 years, and it was an incredibly strange and interesting experience.

Christiania has it's own bike shop, and there were some amazing bikes around. They have actually started to export some models.

In a place where people build their own houses out of materials bought from within Christiania, you would not expect to see architecture this amazing

There are odd things everywhere you look...

'The Daily Leaf' was not focussed on just any type of plant!

This place wouldn't have been complete without a hindu temple

The home made, indoor skate ramp for the kids

And on leaving Christiania, you see this.....

What could be more relaxing....kicking back in front of the opera house in the sun and taking in the view

The 'light ball' within the opera house foyer

There are plenty of parks hidden within the city, and its great cycling

Our favourite place in Copenhagen was Neuhavn, and it's even more beautiful at sunset.

It's so easy to get around by bike. Here's Mick outside the Royal Palace

The fountains at the Royal Palace with the Opera House in the background.

Copenhangen is also home to Hans Christian Anderson, and the Little Mermaid. Her head has been cut off several times but today was in 1 piece.

Michel Angelo made two Statue of David's...here is the second at the sculpture museum in Copenhagen...amazing

The most enourmous and impressive boat we have ever seen. Owned by the founder of Oracle, and was attracting more tourists than the opera house!!

Feeling like a dwarf next to this enormous ship......the luxury and enormity of it is overwhelming

The newly opened Opera House...this is an amazing building. Paid for by shipping giant Mersk, and given to the Danish people as a gift.

A sensational warm and sunny day for our tour of the city by boat

Relaxing in the sun on the boat

A wacky, yet colourful building in the city of Copenhagen

After an epic day of cycling, we make it to the city of Copenhagen where we spent 3 days sightseeing......

We managed to cycle through Koge (Denmark) at the beginning of their annual festival where we feasted on some of the local treats.

Denmark has great beaches too...and the water is warm (well, enough to swim and not freeze)!

Beautiful scenery cycling along the coast of Denmark, just south of Copenhagen

Cooking up a storm at our campsite in Vordingborg on the island of Sjaeland, Denmark

Denmark

Everyone loves Australians in Denmark because of course everyone knows Princess Mary from Tassie! On hearing your accent alone, they latch onto you and love to have a long chat! So, we spent plenty of time chatting to the locals.

All loaded up on the ferry from Puttgarden, Germany to Rodbyhavn in Denmark

Whilst stopped in a bus shelter to change our 7th flat tyre, we were lucky enough to see this bird feeding in action. This is dedicated to Matty J!

These cane chairs look rediculous, but are incredibly popular amongst the beachgoers

A German holiday resort on the north coast of Germany. Can't figure out the importance of the clock....who needs time when you are on a beach holiday!

A train trip down to Wolfsburg, a night at cousin Sabine & Ingo's place and some sightseeing with Sabine......wunderbar!

Everyone loves Smurfs, and Sabine has a sensational collection!!!

Off to Bade Land (a huge swimming complex) in Wolfsburg with cousin Anja

A trip to Wolfsburg wouldn't be complete without a visit to Audostadt, the Volkswagon factory

Happy to be back in familiar territory as we catch the ferry over the river into Hamburg
